Broccoli, Green Sprouting (variety unknown)

This is a record of how long this particular set of seeds took to germinate and how they looked at various stages from first appearance to the development of the first set of true leaves and beyond. I hope this will prove useful.

IT WOULD APPEAR THAT A MIX UP WITH THE SEEDS HAS RESULTED IN THESE PLANTS TURNING OUT TO BE SPROUTING BROCCOLI, VARIETY UNKNOWN AND NOT CABBAGE O-CROSS. I WILL UPDATE WITH PICTURES AS THE SIDE SHOOTS DEVELOP.

This is a variety I have never grown before and is from seed given to me by a friend. These seedlings are intended to go into the ‘Winter Garden’ sections of both my home and the school garden.

Cabbage O-Cross

6 days old

The seedlings are now just over 2weeks old and have their first true leaves.

At 5.5 weeks the seedlings are doing nicely and one has now been planted up into a tub and will be grown in the greenhouse over winter.

At 7 weeks old, this seedling is looking pretty good all things considered.

It has been some months since I last updated this post, in fact the above photo was taken on 3rd October 2013. It is now 7th February 2014 and despite the cold, miserable weather we have been having, this little seedling has been doing okay within the walls of the bubble wrapped greenhouse. Obviously the colder weather has slowed its’ growth down somewhat.

Under the cover of the outdoor growhouses the other seedlings are doing okay but are much smaller due, no doubt, to their less protected environment:
