Chilli, Patio (from saved seed)

This is a record of how long this particular set of seeds took to germinate and how they looked at various stages from first appearance to the development of the first set of true leaves and beyond. I hope this will prove useful.

Variety: Patio
Sown indoors: 9th January 2014
First Seedling: 22nd January 2014
Germination: 13 – 14 days
Germination ratio: 10/10 seeds sown

I have grown this variety for several years but this year I am trying to grow successful and productive bushes from seed saved from last years crop.

At not quite 3 weeks old, the seedlings are doing well and are developing their first true leaves:

Chilli Patio saved seed 17th February: at 4 weeks old this little seedling has now been moved into a larger pot and is doing well. In my experience, at this stage chillies seem to almost stop growing and it feels like forever before you notice any significant growth.

Chilli Patio saved seed March 3rd: As with all the chillies, today  these have now had a liquid feed from my friends wormery and will hopefully really appreciate the extra nutrients and start to pit on more growth.

7th April: At 10.5 weeks old, these young plants are finally starting to grow at a steady pace.

17th May: As with the tomatoes it became apparent that there was something amiss with the compost I sued to pot these seedlings on and growth stopped. So I repotted them into All Purpose Compost and it has taken some time for them to recover but they are now starting to put on growth again.

7th June: All the chillis were given a feed a week ago and it has really helped to perk them up.

  1. This is going to be quite valuable for many people. I started paprika and an heirloom called Peter peppers. The peppers look exactly like a guy’s, well, you know. The whole neighborhood gets a good laugh every fall.
