Pumpkin, Big Max

This is a record of how long this particular set of seeds took to germinate and how they looked at various stages from first appearance to the development of the first set of true leaves and beyond. I hope this will prove useful.

Variety: Big Max
Sown indoors: 15th March 2014
First Seedling: 24nd March 2014
Germination: 9 days
Germination ratio: 2/4 seeds sown at 27th March

Another new variety for me. The seed was given to me by a friend and these plants apparently produce enormous pumpkins.

27th March: 3 days old

30th March: 6 days old and the first true leave is just starting to show

4th April: almost 2 weeks old and growing strongly in the greenhouse. The seedling is under fleece at night but this is removed during the day.

8th April: The true leaves are growing rapidly

13th April: 2 weeks old

11th May: As is often the case with pumpkins and squash, these have grown really quickly and have tiny flowers forming and so  I decided to plant one of them out into the same raised bed as the courgettes. The others will be planted out over the next few days.

30th May: Looking a lot happier now

7th July: The first female flower! Hand pollinated but only time will tell if the pollination has worked and a pumpkin will grow.
