I was quite surprised bu just how small the King Edward seed potatoes were this year. I had seen them in town but thought the garden center may have larger specimens but I was wrong. I have always believed from reading numerous books and articles, that when it comes to seed potatoes, large is definitely the way to go and so it will be interesting to see how this years crop develops.

I’ve never grown a first early variety before and I chose this particular one because it is reputed to have the old fashioned earthy taste which is generally missing from most shop bought potatoes:

I bought a 2kg sack of Albert Bartlett Rooster seed potatoes from a shop in town, gave half to a grower friend for her birthday and set the remainder to chit, using the bottom half of a large egg box, on the dining room window.
