This was the same recipe I used last year but despite the use of a jam thermometer which was a birthday gift from a friend last year, and boiling the mixture twice, the ‘jam’ this year is definitely more of a dipping sauce but just as sweetly fiery as last year, although not as hot. But then we’ve found that the whole chilli crop hasn’t been as hot this year which (in spite of what Mud may think), isn’t such a bad thing really. Continue reading

Earlier this week, Mud came home with a huge tub of Cherries which one of his work colleagues had given him as a thank you for the tomato plants and tub we’d given her. We love cherries in this household but even we were going to struggle to get through what turned out to be nearly 3lb (1.36kg) of the most gorgeous, tasty and juicy cherries we have ever tasted, although the Mudlets were happy to try.

So I had to come up with a plan and, following on from the success with my strawberry conserve a few weeks ago, I decided to have a go at Cherry Conserve. Continue reading

Well what can I say without sounding like I’m blowing my own trumpet? Nothing really because I am thrilled to bits with how my strawberry conserve has turned out but I do think it is more ‘Jam’ than ‘Conserve’. It looks like jam, feels like jam and tastes like strawberries! It isn’t too soft but it isn’t firm like jelly either – it’s perfect, even if I do say so myself.
