Sirdar Summer Stripes Cardigan: Finished

Still needs blocking but I think it’s turned out quite well.

Setting sleeves is my least favourite job of all when it comes to making cardigans and jumpers and after the difficulty I’d had with the actual making of the sleeves, I was absolutely not looking forward to sewing them in but I’m ahead of myself.

As I mentioned in the last post about this particular project, the front and button bands were knitted up from stitches left on a safety pin during the making of the front sections. Personally, I prefer the’ pick and knit’ types of button band because using that method, you have to pick up and then knit into a specific number of loops along the front edge, neckline and neck which effectively means that the band(s) you are making are already fitted to the garment by the sheer act of knitting into the loops.

Look how well it matches in spite of the graduated yarn colour!

Ohhhh I am so pleased with how the sleeves, front band, button band and neck band have all turned out! Each sleeve is beautifully matched to the front and shoulder ….. as near perfect as possible with this sort of yarn, I think. As for the front bands, well I couldn’t have asked for a better result and look at the final edge on the neck band, not only does it finish the garment off rather smartly but it also matches the left hand sleeve cuff with its’ purple edge leading into the paler pink. Yep, I think it’s fair to say that all in all I am pretty pleased with this cardigan, even if the sleeves were a nightmare and a half to knit up!

Almost looks like a cardigan now.

Today I finished the first of the sleeves and as you can see from the pictures, it’s a pretty good match to the left front section. With this in mind, I have decided to start the fifth ball of yarn to knit the second sleeve which will hopefully match it quite closely to the right front section of the cardigan.

Right, so back to the first sleeve.

Two sides of the same top – just a slight difference.

As predicted in my previous update on this cardigan, the right front bares little resemblance, in terms of colour, to the left but that is the nature of this type of yarn and it does look pretty. Next I’ll be starting on the sleeves and it will be interesting to see how they look when finished, especially in relation to the rest of the top.

The left front

It seems to have taken for ever and a day to knit up and finish what should have been a relatively quick section of this project. Various things have conspired to keep me from my needles but finally I have cast off the last stitch of the left front.

Well the back section of Little Mudlets cardigan is finished and I am really happy with the end result. The muted shades of pink and purple look really pretty and my youngest daughter loves it.

I always appreciate a pattern which seeks to aid the knitter as much as possible and this one is brilliant.

I think this is a stunningly pretty pattern and yarn – but then I’m biased

As promised to My Home Makes, here is a very short update on the progress of this very pretty little cardigan. I love the way the yarn is knitting up almost as much as Little Mudlet does and she is very impatient for me to get it finished.

I have just decreased for the armholes and have nearly finished the first ball of yarn. I was quite surprised at the depth of contrast between the three colour stripes but it still isn’t anywhere near as bright as the colour swatch shown on the Sirdar website.
